AxleTech International and BAE Systems Enter Long Term Supply Agreement for High Speed Planetary Axles
AxleTech International, a specialist in high-speed planetary axles for the defense, off-highway, and specialty truck markets, has entered into a long term supply agreement (LTSA) to furnish 5000 Series 5G™ axles to BAE Systems for its RG33 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles. The RG33 has secured awards for over 2,200 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles in both Category I and Category II. The RG33 has also been awarded the Army’s Medium Mine Protected Vehicle (MMPV) program, which forecasts approximately 1,800 vehicles over eight years.

The agreement, including option years, extends through 2012 and covers both original equipment and spare axle requirements. The LTSA is expected to generate over $160 Million in AxleTech revenue based on projected volume.

The exclusive LTSA guarantees the supply of axles for BAE’s survivability-enhanced RG33 vehicles. These vehicles use AxleTech’s new, upgraded 5000 Series 5G™ high-speed planetary axles which have been designed and constructed with enhanced impact resistant and energy absorbing materials. The design offers increased payload capacity for heavier, up-armored requirements and is capable of withstanding the high dynamic shock loads increasingly required in theater. These 5G™ axles maintain all of the other benefits of the 5000 Series™ high-speed planetary axle family, including mobility, automotive performance, and superior ground clearance.
Major Japanese OEM Selects InPlay’s Digital Pen and Touch Solutions for Rugged Tablet PCs
InPlay Technologies (NASDAQ: NPLA) has received a conditional purchase order for its dual-mode, digital pen-and-touch solution from a leading Japanese electronics manufacturer. InPlay’s technology has met a full range of rigorous testing and is designed into an updated line of rugged tablet PCs. The purchase order is contingent upon successful completion of pre-production qualification.

“We feel that it is a strong validation of our technology and the benefits we bring to this market to be selected by a major Japanese OEM. Our digital pen and touch screen product is designed to deliver a high-quality user experience consistent with our customer’s stringent requirements for durability,” said Ramesh Ramchandani, president and COO, InPlay.

Once final requirements are met, production is expected to begin in fourth quarter 2008. InPlay estimates that the project will generate approximately $1 million in revenue annually.

The system also incorporates palm rejection to avoid unintentional input, thereby creating a comfortable user experience. The active digital pen optimizes handwriting recognition and allows for added digital features, while the touch screen offers a quick intuitive interface for cursor selection and navigation.
Sports Blackouts No Longer Keep DIRECTV Viewers in the Dark
DIRECTV scores another first in sports broadcasting technology with GameSearch™, a new search-engine based technology that illuminates the problem of local sports game blackouts for frustrated fans. When a DIRECTV receiver is tuned-in to a channel with a blacked-out game, GameSearch™ recognizes the blackout and immediately looks to see if the game is on another channel.

Sports blackouts, a long time source of frustration and confusion for sports fans, occur when a sporting event is not televised in a certain market to protect the teams, the sports leagues, and the stations, who are the rights-holders to the game broadcast. Regardless of the specific sport or league, the end result is always the same – perplexed fans frustrated at the inability to view their desired game broadcast.

GameSearch will automatically recognize when the DIRECTV receiver is tuned-in to a channel with a sports blackout. The search engine will immediately scan the DIRECTV channel lineup to find alternative channels that may be broadcasting the blacked-out game. If a non-blacked out broadcast of the game is found, GameSearch displays an on-screen message giving the viewer the option to tune in to that channel. If a non-blacked out version is not available, an on-screen message will let the viewer know the game is not available. When a game is scheduled to be recorded on a DVR, GameSearch will find the game that is not in black-out and automatically record it.

New Low Cost, High Performance 802.11 B/G (WiFi) Wireless Network Bridge - Connect Two Locations up to 5 Miles Apart for Only $318
HD Communications Corp., a company with wireless experience dating back to 1976, has introduced the HD26200, a complete outdoor wireless network bridge in the 802.11 B/G unlicensed 2.4GHz band that sells for only $318.

The HD26200 is made up of two high performance Ubiquiti network radios with integrated 17dbi dual polarity antennas that are configured in wireless bridge mode. The HD26200 bridge is also powered over ethernet, so no RF cables are required, only an outdoor CAT5 cable to bring both data and power to the radios.

"Since the introduction of WiFi radios people have tried to push the range of consumer level products by adding external antennas, RF cables, and WiFi amplifiers. The cost of those devices often totaled well over $500 and that was after they had already bought two D-Link® or Linksys® radios for $75 each," said Don Davis, President and CEO of HD Communications Corp. "Now they can have an FCC certified wireless bridge that will work better, look better, is easier to configure, and easier to install for less than $320."

HD Communications Corp. has been selling wireless equipment since 1991, far longer than most of their competitors, so when asked what makes this product so special Davis stated, "We are a solutions company first and a distributor second. If a product does not exist and the market requires it, we bring it to them. I have watched people struggle trying to make that other stuff work and sometimes it did. This works every time and outperforms other manufacturers' $10,000 wireless bridge solutions."
